Joke of the Month
Outrageous Lawsuits
An inmate filed a $5 million lawsuit against himself (he claimed that he violated his own civil rights by getting arrested) - then asked the state to pay because he had no income in jail. He said, "I want to pay myself $5 million dollars, but ask the state to pay it on my behalf since I can't work and am a ward of the state." The judge was not impresses by his ingenuity and dismissed the suit as frivolous - Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse

 Business Tips
Nine Ways to Maximize "Pay Time" and Minimize "No Pay Time"
  1. Watch what you do - pay time activities include finding buyers, getting appointments, making sales calls, making referral calls, and servicing your customers. Pay time typically occurs between 8 am and 5 pm Most no-pay-time activities are best scheduled for before 8 am or after 5 pm Keep a journal of the percentage of the day you spend in each type of activity. Unless pay time is consistently 90% or more of your effort, reorganize your day.
  2. Stay on goal time, not on clock time - your purpose is to accomplish goals, whether that takes one hour or eight hours. Set goals for the day, and when you have accomplished those goals, stop working for the day and do whatever you choose to do as a reward for success.
  3. Keep a "cookbook" and manage it hard - map out the specific behavior you need to reach your daily goals and plot your progress throughout the day.
  4. Focus on the moment - stay 100% mentally focused on what you're doing.
  5. Maintain a healthy self-esteem - keep your mind off yourself and on your revenue generating goals.
  6. Activate a support group - learn what others are doing to maximize their pay time.
  7. Keep a journal - keep a personal journal to record your lessons learned, your shortcuts, your attitude assessment, and your interpersonal behavior. Learn how these factors contribute to your pay time/no pay time split.
  8. Establish a prospecting system - create a process that forces you to systematically perform the grunt work that's a part of sales prospecting. Make sure it covers generating referrals and introductions as well as working leads generated.
  9. Establish a selling system - develop a system of your own, otherwise you will become a prisoner to the buyer's system

 News
Imagine you open your new business with high hopes, spend thousands of dollars on your marketing and advertising, bend-over backward to create a good reputation in the community, and then someone sues you because you are using their trademark? Now you are faced with having to pay an attorney to defend you, possible fines and treble damages, and worst of all, having to change your name.

Want to protect your trade name from unfair use by a competitor? Many people have asked me some questions about trademark law recently, so I have put up the answers to the most frequently asked questions. If you want to register your business name for federal protection, I can help you by performing a search on the federal registry, performing a common law search, and then registering the mark under the appropriate classes. Given the amount of money you will spend marketing and advertising your business, doesn't it make sense to make sure you won't have to change your business name?

Y2Marketing FREE AUDIO PROGRAM: “MONOPOLIZE YOUR MARKETPLACE” - Few people understand this simple marketing truth: Marketing’s job is to facilitate the prospects’ decision-making process, and lead them to one simple conclusion: "I would be a fool to do business with anyone else but you…regardless of price." This 2-CD audio program will teach any business owner how to:
  • Distinguish their business from the competition so prospects choose them
  • Increase advertising response to drive in more leads or traffic
  • Convert a higher percentage of the leads received
  • Make more money without spending more, and quit competing on price
  • Systematize everything and make it simple and easy to implement
  • Have total control over the growth of their business, like a "profit faucet"
These 2-CD sets normally sell for $24.95, but Brett Abbott at Y2Marketing of Austin has agreed to give away one of these sets for FREE, to the first 10 requests from this newsletter. To request your FREE set, e-mail Brett at babbott@y2marketing.com, or call the office at 877-634-8787.
