Joke of the Month
Attorney: At the scene of the accident, did you tell the constable you had never felt better in your life?
Farmer: That's right.
Attorney: Well, then, how is it htat you are now claiming you were seriously injured when my client's auto hit your wagon?
Farmer: When the constable arrived, he went over to my horse, who had a broken leg, and shot him. Then he went over to Rover, my dog, who was all banged up, and shot him. When he asked me how I felt, I just thought under the circumstances, it was a wise choice of words to say I've never felt better in my life.

The Importance of Website Design

Article by Desmond Mantor

What happens when you actually get the people to come to your site but they end up leaving before ever having a chance to really see what it is you have to offer? This happens more often than you might imagine and can truly demoralize anyone that invested countless hours trying to see their dreams materialize into reality. Getting people to come to your site is indeed a major goal, but it is secondary to getting them to purchase your services or products. More often than not, poor web design is the cause of most failed ecommerce ventures. Here are some ideas to keep in mind when creating your website that will help ensure that the visitors stay long enough to realize the true benefits your company has to offer them:

Consistency and simplicity is perhaps the most crucial quality of any good web design. The majority of people who land up at your site would no doubt be using a dial-up connection. If your page takes more than 15 seconds to load, most people will get frustrated and leave, perhaps to visit a competitor's site. Make sure you keep it simple: don't load the page with too many complicated graphics and large files. You can use a combination of smaller graphics and more text on your pages, so that the blending of visual elements and text is appealing to the eyes, yet does not negatively impact the load time. Give your visitors a pleasing experience but don't test their patience!

Your site also needs to have easy-to-use navigation tools. Every page in your website needs to have a link back to the homepage and that link should always be located in the same place on all pages. You do not want visitors getting lost or running into dead end pages. It is also a good idea to have links to all main sections of your site.

While this is definitely not as critical in the beginning, you want to be sure that you have enough bandwidth to accomodate the traffic on your site. The Internet is called the Information Superhighway and you don't want your site bogged down and slow because of insufficient bandwidth. You want to have a plan in place before you launch your website that can easily add bandwidth when the time is appropriate. Many webhosting services provide a sufficient amount of bandwidth for start-ups, but it is definitely a good idea to shop around for the best package.

Web design is the unseen variable in Internet marketing but ultimately the most important. All of your marketing efforts are designed to get people to just come and see what you have to offer. If all they see is some slow loading site with dead end pages all over the place, you will no doubt be perceived as unprofessional and they will move on to your competition. Take the time to plan and organize your website so that your marketing efforts have the best chance for success.
